Laboratory, Inspection and Testing
Inspection and Test Plan
For projects with multiple stages of inspection and testing, we offer a comprehensive Inspection and Test Plan (ITP), which clearly identifies the inspection hold points.
Traceability
Large industrial anodes are hard stamped with the molten metal heat/batch number. This number is linked back to the spectrometer chemical analysis and also linked back to the raw ingots used to make up the particular batch of molten metal. If requested, we can also uniquely stamp each anode from a heat/batch, for even greater traceability.
Spectrographic Analysis
Button sample being analysed on our Spectrometer
The Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) is our most important means of ensuring that the alloy composition of our anodes comply with the desired standard. Our spectrometer is periodically calibrated against NATA approved samples.
Consumption Rate and Closed Circuit Potential Testing
Electrochemical Testing in progress
Zinc ribbon electrochemical test samples
Our laboratory based electrochemical testing is conducted according to the Det Norske Veritas standard DNV-RP-B401 Cathodic Protection Design (2005) Annex B.
Weight Dimensional and Visual Inspection
If requested at the time of order placement, we can inspect and report on the weight, dimensions and visual casting quality of the anodes against the approved technical drawing.
Anode Resistance Testing
We offer resistance testing of the anode to the steel core according to Australian Standard AS2239-2003 Appendix C.
Destructive Testing
Destructive Test
We conduct destructive testing to examine the quality of the bond between the anode and the steel core and also to check that no air pockets or inclusions are present in the cross section of the anode.
Additional Tests
We also have the facilities to carry out additional testing according to customer specifications.
Certificates and Documentation
We provide certificates for all of our inspection and testing, along with any back up documentation such as mill test certificates, blasting reports or calibration records.
For projects which require substantial inspection and testing, we compile the documentation into a Manufacturers Data Report (MDR).
Factory Inspection
If your organisation or your nominated third party inspector wishes to inspect our facilities and casting processes, please contact us to arrange a tour. We would be happy to show you around.
If a site inspection is required as part of the process of gaining acceptance onto your "approved supplier list" we would be happy to arrange a tour.
